Grappas and spirits
Grappa is a spirit obtained from the distillation of marc. From this simple but ingenious process, a whole series of other distillates were born, sometimes commonly called grappa, but which in reality are; distillates of grape must, of fruit, of honey.
A vast and fascinating world, which has the pride of signing itself Made in Italy.

Distilleria Rochelt

Calvados
For many centuries, in Normandy, apples have been mulled and fermented to make an excellent cider. And this, subjected to distillation, gives Calvados.
At the end of the distillation process, by law Calvados must rest in wooden barrels for at least two years, but the best products remain there for much longer periods.

Vodka
Vodka (from the Russian 'voda' meaning water) was originally used to define grain distillates that were used for medicinal purposes. When distillation techniques improved, Vodka became the accepted term for the alcoholic beverage.
Rye and wheat are the most commonly used cereals. Most of the best Russian Vodkas are made from wheat, which is also preferred by Swedish and French distillers; in Poland, they are mainly made from rye.

Whisky
Distilled from water and grain, at an alcohol content by volume of less than 94.8 per cent and aged in casks not exceeding 185 US gallons, for a minimum of three years from the date of distillation, in a bonded cellar.
Whisky, born in Ireland or Scotland, is the noblest of grain spirits, varied and multifaceted, which connoisseurs like to enjoy neat, as it should be for all spirits, although some prefer to add a few drops of pure water

Only the juice of the cane in its raw state is used in the preparation of cachaça. The properly boiled, fermented and distilled juice thus produces the final spirit.

Tequila
Tequila and Mezcal are obtained by distilling the same plant, namely the agave, a thorny plant that grows in the desert highlands of central Mexico. Tequila (yeah, that's male) is a special type of Mezcal, produced exclusively in the state of Jalisco from a single type of agave, the tequilana Weber agave of the azul variety (blue agave).
More than thirty varieties of agave (there are about 150 varieties in Mexico) from seven areas of Mexico can be used to produce mezcal.

Gin
Gin is a strong, clear, typically colourless distillate produced by the distillation of a fermented product made from wheat and barley in which a mixture of herbs, spices, plants and roots - the botanicals - is macerated. These include juniper berries, which characterise the aroma and taste.
The name of the distillate is derived from the name of the juniper plants that produce the berries. Gin was first developed in the Netherlands in the mid-17th century by a doctor from the University of Leiden, Francisco Della Boe, better known as Franciscus Sylvius, whose aim was to find a remedy to cure Dutch soldiers who fell ill with fever in the East Indies.
